Milarepa Quotes

Milarepa Quotes

All the water and drink you’ve consumed From beginningless time until now Has failed to satisfy your thirst or bring you contentment.Drink therefore of this stream Of enlightened mind, Fortunate Ones.

Behold and search your unborn mind;Seek not for satisfaction in samsara.I attain all my knowledge through observing the mind within. Jetsun Milarepa

He who realizes the nature of his own mind knows That the mind itself is wisdom-awareness, And no longer makes the mistake of searching for Buddha from other sources.

If one stays too long with friends,They will soon tire of him; Living in such closeness leads to dislike and hate.It is but human to expect and demand too much, When one dwells too long in companionship.

In the monastery of your heart and body, you have a temple where all buddhas unite.

“Life is short, and the time of death is uncertain; so apply yourselves to meditation. Avoid doing wrong, and acquire merit, to the best of your ability, even at the cost of life itself. In short, act so that you will have no cause to be ashamed of yourselves; and hold fast to this rule.”

“All worldly pursuits have but one unavoidable and inevitable end, which is sorrow; acquisitions end in dispersion; buildings in destruction; meetings in separation; births in death.”

“The affairs of the world will go on forever. Do not delay the practice of meditation.”

“If you lose all differentiation between yourselves and others, fit to serve others you will be.And when in serving others you will win success, then shall you meet with me; And finding me, you shall attain to Buddhahood.”

Veiled by ignorance,
The minds of man and Buddha
Appear to be different;
Yet in the realm of Mind Essence
They are both of one taste.
Sometimes they will meet each other
In the great Dharmadhatu.

I have no desire for wealth or possessions, and so I have nothing. I do not experience the initial suffering of having to accumulate possessions, the intermediate suffering of having to guard and keep up possessions, nor the final suffering of loosing the possessions.

All the wealth you’ve acquired from beginningless time until now has failed to fulfill all your desires. Cultivate therefore this wish-granting gem of moderation, O fortunate ones.

Why does Tsem Rinpoche snap his fingers before teaching?

There's No Way But Up

I am not sure if you had noticed this before but I have. Over the years, I have witnessed Rinpoche snapping his fingers just as he ascends onto his teaching throne. You know what’s funny? I used to think it was a signal for us clowns (Rinpoche’s term of endearment for us spiritual infants) to prostrate. Well, that was what I thought for years until I read the true meaning behind the gesture in the Liberation in the Palm of Your Hands or Lamrim Namdrol Lachang by Kyabje Trijang Rinpoche who compiled and wrote this book based on the notes he wrote during a live teaching given by Kyabje Pabongka Rinpoche.

Apparently, Rinpoche had explained that gesture to senior students in the past but I don’t recall that teaching. Anyway, Kechara House was having the Lamrim Recitation Retreat and we were to recite the Lamrim from chapter to chapter and…

Quote

“When you are discontent, you always want more, more, more. Your desire can never be satisfied. But when you practice contentment, you can say to yourself, ‘Oh yes – I already have everything that I really need.”

-Dalai Lama

”當你有所不滿,你會一直想要更多、更多、更多,你的欲望永難被填飽。
不過,當你練習知足的想法時,你可以跟自己說「沒錯,我需要的東西,我早已擁有。“

Tsa Tsas are are a form of traditional Buddhist art that flourished for centuries in remote Himalayan Buddhist kingdoms, most notably Tibet. They are votive tablets traditionally made of clay. Like many Tibetan sacred objects, they are iconography forms representing various meditational deities (Buddhas). The creation of holy objects such as tsa tsas, statues, and stupas is a practice said to result in great merit (positive energy) for the practitioner.
The benefits of making tsa tsas purifies obstacles, bad conditions, accidents, and sudden diseases like heart attacks and paralysis. By making tsa tsas you pacify enemies, interferers, and harms. You accumulate all merit, purify all obscurations, and achieve the resultant three kayas in future life. Know the benefits of making tsa tsas and tell others how to use them, what they are for. Then, the attitude will be more to use them to purify the mind and accumulate merit, with a deeper benefit to sentient beings.
